The Beginning of Our Tale

Updated: 16 hours ago

Sandy and I knew when we first married that we agreed on two things: we wanted a family, and we wanted to travel. For our honeymoon, we took our first cruise, a quick 5-day trip to Nassau and Freeport in the Bahamas, and we loved every minute of it. We traveled on the Leonardo da Vinci, a ship built in 1960; boy, have cruise ships come a long way. It was our first adventure and one we would never forget. For our first anniversary, we took our second cruise, which was almost identical to the first. This time we were on the SS Flavia, which is a Costa Cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale. We loved that adventure just as much as the first one. And then our little family began to grow - a daughter, and then a son, and then another daughter. The cruises took a back seat to shorter and more local vacations as our children grew.
First were short vacations to nearby spots in New England (where we lived), and then, as our kids got older, we ventured onto longer and more distant adventures across the US: Washington DC, Hershey, PA, Florida, Chicago, the Grand Canyon, California, and even Hawaii. But it wasn't until our children were out on their own that we dusted off our original joy of cruising and dove back in with both feet, and for the past 15 years or so, we've been making up for lost time! First, the Caribbean (and not just Nassau and Freeport): Cozumel, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, St. Maarten, Turks and Caicos, etc. - any port in the Caribbean was fair game! And then Europe - England, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Greece, Croatia - so much to see! Now, we're in full-time adventure mode. We try to always have at least 3 future cruises booked and on the calendar. Sometimes it's places we've already sailed to, but with different excursions planned. Sometimes it's new places we've never been to before, and we get to cross a new city or country off our wish list. But our goal now is to keep exploring, to keep traveling, and to keep, as they say, living great adventures! And we hope you'll join us every step of the way!
